Glass and mirrors vary in thickness, hardness, and texture. The working conditions are different, and in some areas of work (labs, for example) no oil can be present at the cutting area. You might be cutting your glass with the straight cuts or you might have to be doing a lot of pattern cutting (curves, for example, for the stained glass designs). Depending on all above mentioned, you should choose your glass cutter.
Perfect Score™ Oil Feed Glass Cutters, as any of our Oil Feed Glass Cutters, are excellent and our favorite tools to cut glass and mirrors! An automatic oil dispensing system keeps the wheel lubricated every time you cut.
If the cutting area is not to be contaminated with oil (lab works, scientific projects, etc...) you can use the Diamond Tip Glass Cutters, which will allow you to cut glass without the cutting area to be lubricated.
Another option is one of the Metal Handle Glass Cutters or Wood Handle Glass Cutters. They are of an excellent quality, but will require dipping the wheel or the ball of the cutter in the Cutting Oil between every two or three cuts.
An experienced professional or a skillful hobbyist might be able to use above mentioned cutters for glass thicker than ¼”. If you don’t consider yourself very skillful or a professional, for glass thicker than ¼’ a Heavy Duty Glass Cutter for Thick Glass is needed. It comes with the 140 Degree Straight Cutting Head included. A 154 Degree Head for Thick Glass needs to be purchased separately. Also, separately, you can purchase a 140 Degree Pattern Head.
Your cutter is a simple tool. But it does need to be taken care of. Our Glass Cutting Accessories will help you to take a proper care of your cutter. A glass cutter in good conditions will not only last longer, it will make your job easier and more efficient. You will, definitely, have less breakage and cleaner cuts.
Always keep your cutter (except for the Diamond Tip Glass Cutters) in the Cutter Stand. Fill your Cutter Stand with some Professional Glass Cutter Oil.
If you glass cutter is not an Oil Feed Glass Cutter, dipping its wheel or ball in oil between every two or three cuts will keep it clean and lubricated and will prolong its life. When your cutter dulls, don't try to re-sharpen it, purchase a new one. Or, if you have a cutter with a replaceable head, buy a Replacement Head for your glass cutter. Replacement Heads can be found on our web site under corresponding glass cutter category. For example, a Perfect Score™ Oil Feed Glass Cutter can be fitted with any of these three replacement heads: Straight Cutting Head, Replacement Pattern Cutting Head or Replacement Heavy Glass Cutting Head.
