THE WORLD OF SUNOUT WINDOW FILM
Welcome to the world of high-technology SUNOUT Static Cling Solar Control Window Films for home, commercial, industrial and automotive windows.

WHAT IS SUNOUT WINDOW FILM?
SUNOUT is technically known as "DOT MATRIX UV-X". It was originally developed for the automotive trade to be used as an alternative to the glue-on types of automotive window film. It is actually a combination of materials in a single continuous film sheet which is statically charged on one side but not on the other. After the performance layers are finished the material is perforated to exacting specifications to provide the greatest sun control for heat, ultra-violet light, arid glare, and, at the same time, to provide the greatest visibility.

HOW IS SUNOUT MADE?
The manufacturing process is part of a patented secret. But, it basically starts with the chemist's computer where the formulations are made to produce the proper combinations of chemicals to produce the two very different materials. Each must have the flexibility to stretch enough to conform to complex window shapes and yet to be rigid enough to maintain shape during extreme temperature changes.
After the chemistry is correct, raw sheets of materials are made. The material is inspected to assure the perforator that it is free from defects that might affect further processing, would produce rough surfaces that would keep the material from adhering to the glass, or would interfere with clear visibility.
The sheets are finished, inspected again for proper static charge and the final rolls are perforated, slit and re-rolled into convenient sizes. The finished product is inspected again and packaged for consumer use.

CAN I APPLY SUNOUT OVER EXISTING WINDOW FILM?
Yes! SUNOUT will apply directly over existing window film surfaces without damage to the film. You should note, however, that some window films fade over time due to exposure to ultra-violet light. This is a natural occurrence and can be seen after a period of one to five years depending on the quality of the film. The long term effects of overlaying these films with SUNOUT has not been completely determined as yet except that it is reasonable to expect some differential aging of the standard window film. This could result in a dot patterning effect in the film after the SUNOUT material is removed.

HOW ABOUT OVER LEXAN?
Also, not a problem. SUNOUT films, unlike window film, can be safely installed on any impervious surface, such as Lexan or any other plastic or plasticized product including many high gloss painted surfaces.

IS SUNOUT DURABLE?
Since both sides are in the polyvinyl-chloride (PVC) family they are virtually indestructible. Rain, heat, cold and the sun's ultra-violet rays, the things most likely to cause degredation due to exposure, will not affect SUNOUT for many, many years.

HOW IS SUNOUT INSTALLED?
This is the easiest part. SUNOUT applies to slick surfaces, such as glass, because of the static charge that is inherent to the shiny side of the film. This means that once the glass has been cleaned and is dry, SUNOUT can be placed shiny side to the glass and lightly brushed into place with the palm of the hand. We recommend installations on large pieces of glass begin by trimming the top edge of the film and the left side square with the window frame. Beginning installation in the upper left hand corner, smooth the film from the center to the corners. When totally in place, it can be trimmed with a razor blade or handy cutter using a straight edge or our finishing tool as a guide. You can spray the surface with water to which a drop of baby shampoo or two has been added and apply wet if you choose to, but it is not necessary. To create a uniform look on the outside of the glass, just rub the surface with the finishing tool or the edge of a credit card or similar tool. Rub out the glossy areas until a uniform look is achieved.

WHAT ABOUT BUBBLES OR SPECKS OF DIRT?
Just pull back the film remove the specks and reapply. You cannot damage SUNOUT or its ability to adhere to the window.

YOU MEAN IT CAN BE REMOVED AND REINSTALLED WITHOUT DAMAGE?
As often, as you want. Even if the material gets wrinkled in storage, a little heat and some work onto the glass surface with the installation tool will take out all the wrinkles. For removing the material for storage simply lift off a corner and peel SUNOUT off the window, roll it up and store it. It can be used on the same or a completely different window, as you choose.

WILL IT LOSE ITS STATIC CLING?
It is possible that the material may appear to have lost its static properties due to contamination of the static cling surface. It can be cleaned with a solution of one cup water with a drop or two of baby shampoo. For restoration of the static cling, tumble SUNOUT in the clothes dryer under very low heat with a damp towel. Do not tumble longer than necessary. Check every 2 minutes. If wrinkles occur the material can be ironed on low heat protected by a thin damp cotton towel.

WILL IT COME OFF IN EXTREME TEMPERATURES?
No. Once successfully applied on a clean surface, SUNOUT will not come off. Laboratory testing was conducted in a barometric chamber on material applied to a piece of laminated glass at temperatures ranging from -24 degrees to more than 160 degrees Fahrenheit. Humidity was added to a maximum of 95% without failure of the material to adhere. In practical applications both on the inside and on the outside of industrial skylights similar results were achieved. Our automotive testing included application of SUNOUT to the outside glass and paint surface of a race vehicle, which went on to achieve speeds in excess of 200 mph without even lifting a corner.

IS IT FLAME RETARDANT?
Yes. SUNOUT is self extinguishing and certified to meet or exceed requirements of the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Standard 701 and Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSSO 302). Testing results are done by independent testing laboratories and are available on request.

WHAT ABOUT ON THERMAL PANE WINDOWS?
Care should be taken not to use the black SUNOUT films on the inside of thermal pane windows. Black Color Film can be used on ether side of the single pane window or patterned, textured, wired or frosted glass. You may use any of the other colors on the ether side of thermal pane windows.
