General Purpose Abrasive Grains and Powders
Create your own lapping and polishing compounds by mixing these grains and
powders with water, oil, or grease. They can also be used in blasting
operations. Furnished in 5-lb. containers.
Grit sizes 16 to 240 are considered grains and their size is controlled
by screen tests in accordance with American National Standards Institute (ANSI)
B74.12-1976. Grit sizes 280 to 1200 are considered powders and their size is
tested by sedimentation or microscopic methods to conform to established
standards.
Black Silicon Carbide (98% SiC)—For
brittle materials such as chilled gray iron, cemented carbide tools, hard
alloys, glass, marble, stone, and ceramics. Also for low-tensile substances such
as brass, soft bronze, aluminum, copper, rubber, and leather.
