Selecting Awning Window Operators.
 |
Beyond specifying the handing as Left or
Right, and specifying the finish or color, there are four additional
items to consider when selecting a replacement:
1. Type of body or mounting hole pattern: choose from one of the four
styles shown in the awning operator chart.
2. Link Arm length: measure from center of rivet to center of link arm
attachment point.
3. Is link arm flat or does it have an offset?
4. End of the link arm: 3/8" diameter thru-hole; threaded bushing;
threaded hole; or Snap Ring Stud (also referred to as an "E" Ring). |

Finally, check the dimensions between holes and
compare to chart dimensions. There have been more then 70 distinct types of
operators manufactured. TechnologyLK offers the 30 most popular in gray finish.
Over-the-Sill Operators are rare and not currently stocked, however many are
still available by special order. The difference between common awning operator
bodies and over-the-sill type is that common operators always have spindles that
angle up slightly allowing for finger clearance to the sill, while the
over-the-sill operator has a spindle that comes straight out of the body. This
operator type is usually mounted higher up, above the reach to operate by hand,
requiring the need for a spindle extension, universal joint, and a Clerestory
Pole to open and close the window from the floor level. All information required
to identify common operators, such as body type and link configuration, is also
necessary to identify over-the-sill operators.
